A Warm Welcome to Ortisei! After an eight-year hiatus, we are delighted to organize—for the fifth time—the Ortisei International Chess Tournament, taking place from September 11th to 13th, 2026, over a 5-round distance. Previous editions have seen the participation of Grandmasters (GM) and International Masters (IM) from over 25 countries and 5 continents. The event has been a sporting and cultural success with significant media coverage, offering a rare opportunity for the many chess enthusiasts of South Tyrol—especially the younger generation—to test their skills against world-class champions. The tournament will be titled "ad Gredine," in tribute to the historical document dating back to the year 999, in which the name "Gardena" was mentioned for the very first time. It is a special occasion to introduce the Ladin identity and culture to the international chess community. It is precisely these elements—the enchanting landscape, our renowned hospitality, and the exquisite local cuisine—that make participating in this tournament a truly unique experience here in the 'Pearl of the Dolomites' (UNESCO - World Natural Heritage). Together with our regional and national partners, we are dedicated to ensuring a memorable and joyous chess festival. We wish the best of luck to each and every one of you!
